Why Artists NEED to Collaborate More!
Im currently writing up the business plan for my inde label and id like to thank you for making this channel. It provides me with so much insight
Ok
Doesn’t this kind of thing get you flagged for fake streams?
The campaign being average on Groover doesn't mean anything, especially anything bad. I've been on both sides of the coin regarding Groover: as an artist/producer & as a curator. I felt disappointed when rejected until I started working for this music promotion site where they sent me off to review Groover tracks & I can tell you this: First off, even the smallest playlists get dozens of songs weekly & most playlists have a cap limit, so songs have to be rejected even if they're good. Secondly, most of the time, the purpose of Groover is to reject tracks as reviewing them & giving feedback is all you need to make money off it. Most people will review your track & give you feedback already knowing it'll get bounced. Thirdly, a lot of these curators don't really know anything about music. They just happened to get lucky or buy bots to have an active playlist; the feedback they give you is going to be generic at best. They're out there feeling like they're Anthony Fantano reborn but know little to nothing about music.
Always helpful👍🏾
Dude, why? What was you point? To have views? The most unhelpful video ever!
Thanks for the feedback, Toni! Much appreciated!
I release my music when it’s done 🤷🏻♂️
Haha nice!!
Concise yet informative
Thanks!!
Absolutely love Symphonic ❤❤❤
Nice!!
Thanks mhennn. You're such an inspiration. No turning back. Appreciate ❤

Heya, so I might be a little late to the party on this video, but I was wondering what the general consensus is on illustrations vs. graphic design for album covers? So for example a full on high fantasy illustration drawn from scratch for your album vs. a picture or two of the band edited together with some fancy effects? Is there generally a preference for one or the other? I was wondering if there is a demand for full from scratch illustrations or if most bands would rather just have foto edits, etc.
Ummmmmm HOW do I MASSAGE MY FANS???? (06:07) in this video.... Very useful info Thank you @scottorr
Agree. A vinyl record in the 21st century is a luxury, so make it feel luxurious
Well said.
Rick’s The Creative Act is best experienced as an audiobook ; currently on Spotify.
Nice tip!
Hey, do you know if they offer motion art on their starter plan
I wish physical media of music made a comeback But I don’t see it happening in America
I lost 10 grand running a label. I checked out Inner Ocean and the music is trendy like lo-fi hip-hop beats to study to that’s always streaming on RUclips. When I do ride share and some young people will show me an artist they like and it’s not good music, it’s just a trendy artist like Taylor Swift music or it’s rap that’s not that great musically speaking either, more like a social statement. If running a label you can try to be trendy or have a break out hit, otherwise it’s tuff to break even much less make a profit. Let’s say you’re a band and can create some local buzz or your a DJ that can draw an audience then it will be easier to actually *sell* music. If your label isn’t considered cool and you’re not considered cool then the chances of success are slim.
Why is this listed as Music ? I don't wanna hear this when I'm listening to YT music Wtf
What you are describing is hypnotism, if thats what it takes to get business then my energy is better spent on my records. Im a strong believer of "the music is the talking" and "i am a member of the audience"
Question for you, do you think any of the songs on the playlists your pitching too have songs on their that are songs they discovered not via submission and shared? It seems like this is a grift for people who run playlists, how else do they monetise the work they do, where is the incentive for a curator? They only have so much space and seemingly reject most people for no good reason, actually even caught out for just stock responses from many stories I’ve read. Also, is this how you personally engage with music? I don’t know anyone in the real world that finds music through playlists like this, I suspect the listens on a lot of them are also botted to draw more musicians to submit music to the playlist and continue the grift. The terrifying truth is there is no magic formula, make music with your heart and to the best of your ability, make sure you have some visual content for it, upload and hope for the best.
Great info here. Thanks
Hello brother I need advice I'm a artist sing rap produce i do 10 style from reaggae rap blues jazz alternative rock country and much more I've been at it long time im at the top of my game 🎮 what would you recommend star a label sir. Thank you for all the amazing videos you do fam
how can i change profile photo in symphonic? i dont like the guitar avatar
Running in one week now. Still not even play or click or impression. Cannot understanding why I just spend $117 for no reason
A couple of questions- this will be my first release and I don't have a spotify or youtube page yet. I was going to use CDBaby and they assign an artist YT page. Do I need to create them myself now, or wait until the first song is released? Also, where do you get that catalog number? Is it just a random number?
Love the channel and content! Could just be a me thing, but the hard pans one voice in one ear one voice in the other make it a bit hard to to listen to across a long conversation. Again, love the channel, thanks!!
One of my favorite labels. This is a great convo and insight to how Terry & co work.
Key takeaway is to explore, and keep an open mind to new ideas.
Thanks for listening! Be sure to check out this great label and learn more about multiple revenue streams here: otherrecordlabels.com/revenue

Ugh… you guys take a % of our royalties ?? Really …. Can we avoid that ??
So you can track shopify sales… can you automatically track cost of goods and transaction fees?
YOU JUST TALKING TOO MUCH
Thanks for the feedback, Themba!
Ok, this is great. Do you talk anywhere about how you structure fees and costs for your record label services? I am definitely thinking of doing this, and I have several artists that I think I can help. But I want to make sure I'm charging them something that's reasonable, but also financially sound for the investment of my time and energy.
Yes this would be a good idea my bro
What does a label do? How does it make money?
What does a label do?
What is the bar code number? How do you get a bar code number?
Your digital distributor usually provides that for each release. Sometimes for a small fee, and sometimes it’s included.
Formed a regional label in 1990 when I opened my midsized pro studio in 1982, and this small label formed a spring board for many of my first acts, enabling them to get major label signings.
With amazing intellectual songs like: "you think you the sh$t but are only a Far* t by LIL Spice and that said "artist" being courted by the music industry as royalty......There is no wonder that independnat artists are struggling to get any kind of recognition at all. I suppose that if I write them most foul, disgusting hip hop song about feces, masturbation and murder, then I may have a chance to hit the bigtime. (sarcasm) I think I will just continue on making MY music that I love and be happy. Blessings and cheers from Australia. Reply
Spreadsheets all the way! :p

Hey Scott! Thanks for a great video here... I have already subscribed, and purchased my first 3 books. My partner and I have been writing new music, doing Taxi submissions, and some pretty cool recording projects. We have now started our production/recording company. And already approached by a new upcoming artist for a album project! I look forward to a continuing education process and a new friend...!!! We have both been in the music business 30 + years.... And still educating ourselves every day...!!! Rock on my friend! Off to your next video...✌️
Amazing!! Thank you!!
Bandcamp is the best and qualitatively most interesting platform for serious musicians that has ever existed. I very much hope that Bandcamp succeeds in maintaining its authenticity and its very special quality in times of plagiarism (AI and co.).
